Indian short film Anuja has made it to the Oscar nominations this year and it has become the only Indian movie this year at The Academy.
Now the film, which is produced by Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga, is going to release on OTT soon.
Anuja has been co-produced by Mindy Kaling, Priyanka Chopra's Purple Pebble Pictures, and Oscar winner Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment.
The official social media handle of Netflix India shared Anuja's trailer and wrote: “ANUJA is a story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. The Academy Award Nominated Live Action Short Film comes to Netflix February 5.”
Anuja will have its digital premiere on February 5 almost 3 weeks before the Oscars, which is going to take place on March 2 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The film is the story of a nine-year-old Anuja, who must make a choice between education and factory work alongside her sister - a decision that will shape both their futures.
The film stars Sajda Pathan and Ananya Shanbhag.
It is produced in collaboration with the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a nonprofit founded by filmmaker Mira Nair’s family in support of street and working children, alongside Shine Global, and Krushan Naik Films.
Yesterday, Priyanka Chopra had also shared a video of an ecstatic Sajda at the airport hinting that she is going to meet the actress soon in the US ahead of the big Oscars night.
Anuja, directed by Adam J Graves and Suchitra Mattai, is pitted against 'A Lien', 'I’m Not a Robot', 'The Last Ranger' and 'The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent' at the awards gala.
The nominations for the 2025 Oscars, which were twice postponed earlier this month due to wildfires in Los Angeles, were announced by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott on January 23.
Talking about Guneet Monga, she has earlier produced the 2023 Academy Award-winning documentary short film The Elephant Whisperers.
"Yaaaay! 'Anuja' is heading to the 2025 Oscars as a nominee for Best Live Action Short Film! Incredible! Thank you to @theacademy for the amazing honour," Priyanka posted on Instagram.
"It's an honour for @purplepebblepictures and I to be a small part of this film’s journey alongside our amazing partners @suchitramattaistudio, @mindykaling, @guneetmonga, and @shine.global," she added.
Kaling hailed "Anuja" as a story of "resilience, sisterhood, and hope." "We're incredibly honoured to be nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the Academy Awards 2025... It has been such an honour to produce this short film and learn from the artists involved. So proud @kalinginternational gets to be a part!" she wrote on Instagram.
