Actress Shwetha Menon has asked for suggestions needed for improvements in the Malayalam film industry. She made history recently by becoming the first woman to lead the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). She has fought for women to have set work hours and a safe, supportive, and open workplace.
A Request for Change
At the India Today South Conclave 2025, Shwetha said that many women in the film industry are afraid to talk about their concerns because they worry it will affect their chances of getting a job.
She thought about how she had filmed four movies when she was pregnant, using her own life as an example.
She remarked, "I told my directors that I didn't like shooting early in the morning, and they understood." This shows how talking and understanding can solve many difficulties.
"Talking about things can fix most problems, but people don't want to do it," she said. As the first female vice president of AMMA, I told women to speak up, but most of them didn't.
Shwetha remarked that women in this field still have to fight their own battles because they are terrified of losing their jobs. "I don't blame them."
People's employments are on the line. "But these problems will slowly come to light," she promised.
A Great Example of Leadership
When Mohanlal left, AMMA had a historic occasion when Shwetha Menon was chosen as president. As she continues to press for measures that put fairness and diversity first, her leadership represents the start of a new era.
About Shwetha Menon
Shwetha began her career as a model and was one of the last three women to win the title of Femina Miss India in 1994.
She subsequently became an actress and was noted for her strong, fearless roles in movies like Paleri Manikyam, Salt N' Pepper, and Kayam.
She has also hosted a lot of TV series, performed in Tamil and Hindi movies, and even won Bigg Boss Malayalam. As the first woman to lead AMMA, she is now focused on making changes to the way the industry works.
