The ongoing feud between Nayanthara and Dhanush over the usage of behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan has captured public attention, with Vijay Sethupathi subtly making headlines amidst the controversy.

As Nayanthara and Dhanush exchange blows in a public row, Sethupathi shared a new post on his social media, redirecting attention to his upcoming film Viduthalai Part 2.

Nayanthara-Dhanush Dispute: What Happened?

The controversy began when Nayanthara accused Dhanush of filing a ₹10 crore lawsuit against her. The dispute centers around her documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, which reportedly features BTS footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.

According to Nayanthara, she had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush to use the footage but received no response. In an open letter, she slammed Dhanush for his silence and labeled the lawsuit unnecessary, stating, “The video in question has been freely available on the public domain for years.”

Nayanthara further added that her team eventually decided to forgo the footage from the film to avoid complications. Instead, they included a publicly available BTS clip. However, this did not prevent Dhanush from filing the lawsuit, accusing her of using the footage without proper permission. In her letter, Nayanthara criticized Dhanush’s actions, calling them “a reflection of his inability to resolve matters amicably.”

Vijay Sethupathi’s New Post

While the Nayanthara-Dhanush dispute rages on, Vijay Sethupathi—Nayanthara’s co-star from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan—took to social media with a cryptic silence about the issue. Instead, he used the moment to promote his upcoming film Viduthalai Part 2. On platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), Sethupathi shared a post announcing the release of the film’s first song, “Dhinam Dhinamum,” composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

“A melting first single #DhinamDhinamum from director #VetriMaaran’s #ViduthalaiPart2 is out now!” Sethupathi wrote. He also shared the song’s link, which has since garnered widespread attention.

The actor’s decision to steer clear of commenting on the controversy reflects his focus on his work rather than getting involved in disputes. While his post does not directly address the ongoing feud, its timing has led to speculation among fans.

Viduthalai Part 2: The Upcoming Film

Directed by Vetri Maaran, Viduthalai Part 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Viduthalai Part 1, based on Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan. The film, which features Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in pivotal roles, delves deep into the socio-political fabric of rural Tamil Nadu.

The production of the two parts was completed back-to-back in 2022, but due to the length and depth of the story, the makers decided to release the project in two installments. With its star-studded ensemble cast, including Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Bhavani Sre, Viduthalai Part 2 is set to release on December 20, 2024. The release of its first song, “Dhinam Dhinamum,” has further heightened anticipation.

Fans’ Reaction to Vijay Sethupathi’s Post

Sethupathi’s post has sparked conversations among fans. Many lauded his ability to stay neutral amidst the brewing tension between Nayanthara and Dhanush. One fan wrote, “Vijay Sethupathi knows how to keep things professional. That’s why he’s the ‘Makkal Selvan.’” Others speculated whether his silence on the issue was intentional, noting his past camaraderie with both Nayanthara and Dhanush.

Meanwhile, some fans were quick to draw parallels between Sethupathi’s career choices and his focus on meaningful projects. As one fan commented, “While others are caught up in controversies, Vijay Sethupathi is busy delivering masterpieces.”

The Bigger Picture

The Nayanthara-Dhanush feud has raised questions about intellectual property rights and the ethics of using publicly available footage. Nayanthara’s open letter highlights the complexities artists face when navigating professional disagreements. By calling out Dhanush’s alleged lack of response, she has brought attention to the importance of communication and mutual respect in the film industry.

However, Vijay Sethupathi’s decision to stay above the fray has also set a precedent for how actors can maintain professionalism amidst controversies. By focusing on promoting his film, he has demonstrated that his priorities lie in his craft, not in drama.

As Viduthalai Part 2 gears up for release, all eyes will be on Sethupathi and his ability to deliver yet another memorable performance. Meanwhile, fans of Tamil cinema are left wondering whether the Nayanthara-Dhanush feud will reach a resolution or continue to unfold in the public eye.
