Bollywood has witnessed its fair share of iconic comebacks, but few have been as grand and impactful as Bobby Deol’s resurgence. Riding high on the success of Animal, Bobby Deol has earned a new title from none other than his Humraaz co-star, Ameesha Patel. In a recent interview with India Today Digital, Ameesha referred to Bobby as the “OG Stallion,” praising his performance and expressing her admiration for his journey in the industry.
Ameesha Patel’s Praise for Bobby Deol
Ameesha Patel and Bobby Deol shared the screen in the 2002 thriller Humraaz, a film that showcased their undeniable chemistry. Over the years, their camaraderie has remained strong, and Ameesha couldn’t help but shower Bobby with praise for his charm, talent, and ability to redefine himself.
“Bobby is my absolute darling. The Deols are, anyway, very close to my heart. Bobby and Sunny are as different as chalk and cheese. One’s shy, one’s outgoing. One’s always blushing, and one’s vibing with everyone on the set. One barely talks! But I get along with both really well,” she said.
Acknowledging Bobby’s massive transformation in recent years, Ameesha expressed her excitement for his success, especially after his powerful role in Animal. She wished him the best for the future, stating, “I want to wish Bobby the best of luck. I pray to God that he gets the best roles. He’s the OG Italian Stallion! He’s a great dancer, a great actor—you know, he’s got everything that a perfect hero needs to have. I wish him many good scripts and a very glorious life with his beautiful wife, Tanya.”
Ameesha on Bobby’s ‘Comeback’
Ameesha dismissed the term “comeback,” asserting that true superstars never really leave the industry. She questioned the need for the word, comparing Bobby’s resurgence to that of other legendary actors.
“Good actors always stay. I don’t know why they call it comebacks or second innings. Everyone goes through ups and downs, through a lean phase. Like, I don’t understand why they even termed it for Mr. Bachchan. I don’t know why they called Shah Rukh’s return with Pathaan a comeback or anything because good actors don’t ever go away. They choose to maybe stay away, take a pause, and reassess. Everyone goes through their ups and downs. I hate this word ‘comeback’ because, like I said, superstars like these never left,” she explained.
Humraaz Sequel and Bollywood Re-releases
When asked whether she would reunite with Bobby for a film, Ameesha expressed enthusiasm, specifically mentioning Humraaz as a potential project for a sequel.
“Yes, of course. You know, Humraaz has potential for a sequel; it was left open-ended. It is one of the most popular films, and the songs were super hits. So yeah, if that happens, it will be great. Working with Bobby is always fun.”
Apart from Humraaz, Ameesha also spoke about the increasing trend of Bollywood classics being re-released on the big screen. With Gadar and Kaho Naa Pyaar Haihaving successful re-releases, she believes Humraaz would also be a hit if brought back to theaters.
“Love it. I’ve had two big iconic films—Gadar and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai—both of which were so well received. Fans, young audiences who weren’t even born then, all of them got a chance to go back and see these films on 70mm. Humraaz can also be re-released. I am sure people would love to see the film on the big screen once again. And there’s no experience like 70mm,” she said.
Bobby Deol’s Rise to Stardom Again
With projects like Aashram and his menacing role in Animal, Bobby Deol has proven that he remains a force to be reckoned with in Bollywood. His transformation—both physically and in terms of acting choices—has won over audiences and critics alike.
Ameesha was particularly blown away by Bobby’s performance in Animal. “Loved, loved him. I loved Ranbir also, but for me, it was a shocker—those 15-20 minutes that Bobby was on screen. I didn’t know, during that climax, who I was vouching for and rooting for. I was like, I don’t want anything to happen to either of them because I love both of them so much.”
She also recalled a standout moment in Animal, where Bobby’s character places a glass on his head, making it a memorable scene.
“And Bobby, with that glass on his head, made it so cool that everywhere you go, especially when people are a few drinks down, they’re putting the glass on their head and doing the number. It doesn’t even have to be a guy—it can be a girl, too. I think that’s so cute that he brought that out from his childhood experience and brought it onto the screen. And he did it so convincingly. For an actor who was gunga (mute) in the film to make such an impact like, wow! That’s what I’m saying—he’s a terrific actor. I’m looking forward to seeing amazing work from him, too.”
