Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule received a massive success at the box office. The film grossed over Rs 1,740.95 crore worldwide, becoming the highest grossing film in Indian cinema. However, Pushpa landed in controversy and faced multiple legal challenges following a stampede case wherein a mother lost her life and her child battles for recovery.
Following the stampede case, the film landed in another controversy, but this time over its collection.
According to TOI reports, GL Narasimha Rao has filed a petition against the makers of the film and argued that a portion of the massive profits from Pushpa 2, which reportedly exceeded Rs 1,870 crore worldwide, should be allocated to support the welfare of folk artists and provide subsidies for small-budget films.
The petitioner further expressed his concerns over the approval process for increased ticket prices and special screenings of the film. He cited a relevant Supreme Court ruling. He then urged the court to direct the government to allocate the film's profits towards initiatives that benefit cinema-goers, such as constructing public theaters and providing support for small-scale films.
During the court hearing, the judge raised concerns about the petition's relevance, pointing out that the benefit shows and ticket price hikes had already taken place.
However, the petitioner clarified that the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) specifically focused on the profits generated by the film. Following the arguments, the court instructed the petitioner to submit a copy of the relevant Supreme Court ruling that supports their claims. The case has been postponed for two weeks.
Pushpa 2 also stars Rashmika Mandanna and revolves around Pushpa and Bhanwar Singh as they continue their rivalry in this epic conclusion to the two-part action drama.
