Alia Bhatt spoke candidly with Brut during her first appearance at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, sharing how becoming a mother has profoundly changed her viewpoint both as an actor and as a person.

Speaking emotionally about her daughter, Alia shared how motherhood has made her feel a constant presence, even when physically apart from her child. "Because now I am here, but my heart is at home because my daughter is at home. It just feels that I am never alone, the thought and the presence of her is always with me," she said.

She described how the focus of her world has shifted from self to her child, which in turn has expanded her emotional sensitivity. "By those means you are not thinking about yourself as often and I think that's the biggest thing that has changed. Your world from being inward just becomes outward to that one person and then you become so much more sensitive to everyone else's journey... It will affect you as if they are your child's tears."

When asked specifically about whether motherhood has influenced the roles she chooses, Alia responded with thoughtful honesty: "I am not even sure how it influences it to be very honest. I think there is definitely way more empathy, I think your heart is just wide open... I don’t know how I have chosen my roles differently or how I am going to take a path to it, I just also don’t think I am the same person."

She admitted that she experienced a profound identity shift after giving birth. "Pre being a mum, I think naturally a lot will change... I was like, there was a person who is just gone. I was like who? Who am I? Who is this new person? Let’s get to know her a little bit."
