Alia Bhatt reveals there was no electricity while prepping for Cannes 2025, here's how her team saved her day

Alia Bhatt’s debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival was one of the most highly anticipated moments of the year, and the actress did not disappoint. Representing India at the closing ceremony of the prestigious festival, held from May 13 to May 24, 2025, Alia turned heads with her sartorial choices and radiant presence. However, behind her flawless red carpet appearance was a nerve-wracking ordeal involving a major power cut that nearly derailed her preparations.

In a candid behind-the-scenes conversation with Vogue, Alia opened up about the unexpected chaos that unfolded on the day of the final event. “I truly thrive in this type of chaos,” she said with a laugh. “It’s a bit strange, I don’t know why, but like the chaos always tends to find us. A couple of minutes ago, we had no electricity for the last four hours. We were figuring it out as we were going. Now, we are very grateful and thankful that the electricity is back.”

With no power and the clock ticking, her team was forced to get creative. Alia shared a particularly ingenious hack by her hairstylist, Amit, who refused to let the situation defeat them. “So Amit over here was actually taking my hair extensions, and he put them on a tong. And he put it out in the sun so that it could heat up because we had no electricity,” Alia recalled.

Despite the chaos, the outcome was nothing short of spectacular. Alia stunned in a custom Gucci ensemble that paid homage to the traditional Indian saree while embracing a modern silhouette. The outfit earned praise for seamlessly blending cultural heritage with contemporary high fashion. The look quickly became one of the most talked-about styles from the festival’s closing night.

Joining Alia on the red carpet were other prominent Indian celebrities such as Janhvi Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, and Ishaan Khatter, each showcasing their unique flair and further highlighting the growing presence of Indian talent on the global stage.

Professionally, Alia shows no signs of slowing down. She is currently filming Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where she stars opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. Additionally, she is gearing up to promote Alpha, an action thriller that is part of YRF’s ever-expanding spy universe.
