Fans demand the release of Chakda Xpress

Team India’s historic win at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has not only set the nation celebrating but also reignited a conversation that fans have been waiting years to have — the release of Anushka Sharma’s long-delayed Jhulan Goswami biopic, Chakda Xpress.

The victory, which saw India lift the trophy on November 2, has turned the spotlight back on the long-awaited film that celebrates one of Indian cricket’s greatest icons.

Directed by Prosit Roy and produced by Clean Slate Filmz, Chakda Xpress has been completed for almost three years but remains unreleased.

The film, which traces Jhulan Goswami’s journey from a small town in Bengal to becoming one of the fastest bowlers in women’s cricket, has been caught in a deadlock between Netflix India and Anushka’s brother Karnesh Ssharma’s production company.

Now, after the women’s team’s incredible win, both fans and industry insiders are urging Netflix to put the differences aside and release the film. Social media has been buzzing with calls for the biopic to finally see the light of day. Some members of the Chakda Xpress team have even written directly to Netflix executives.

A member from the film’s core team told mid-day, “We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see if they can rise above the conflict so that the film can see the light of day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience.”

According to insiders, the project ran into trouble due to budget overruns and creative disagreements. “The production house went over-budget. What added to the woes was that the platform heads didn’t like the way the project was shaping up. But it’s still a solid film,” revealed one person who worked closely on the film.

The rights to Chakda Xpress currently rest with Netflix, but there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel. Another source shared, “The recent victory has put the attention back on the biopic. Internal discussions at the streamer have started, and the team is expected to take a final pass this month to determine if it can be released after additional work.”

For Anushka Sharma, who returns to acting after a long break, Chakda Xpress isn’t just another sports drama — it’s a story of grit, passion, and resilience.
