The eagerly awaited digital premiere of Vijay Sethupathi's Ace, which debuted in theatres across the globe on May 23, 2025, has arrived. The romantic crime comedy, which received mixed reviews at the box office, is now available for viewing on Amazon Prime Video just a few weeks after it debuted in theaters.
Limited Promotions and a Hurried Release
Ace's commercial performance was subpar, despite the excitement surrounding Sethupathi's name. In an open conversation with fans while at the theater, the actor admitted that the film's poor reception was caused by its hasty release and lacklustre marketing.
In order to create anticipation, a movie is typically promoted for weeks prior to its release. Regretfully, we only started promoting Ace a week earlier," he remarked, considering the lost chances that might have affected the movie's reception.
Ace revolves around Kannan, a man with aspirations of a new beginning who is working to rebuild his life overseas. But after a botched heist lands him in a perilous criminal underworld, his plans go awry. Kannan must use his cunning and intuition to make his way through the chaos as survival, treachery, and deceit take center stage.
Rukmini Vasanth (of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello fame) plays the female lead in Ace, while Vijay Sethupathi plays the main role. Yogi Babu, BS Avinash, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Divya Pillai, and Ramesh Thilak are among the film's strong supporting cast members.
Ace assembled a formidable technical team under the direction of Arumuga Kumar, who also wrote and produced the movie. The background score was created by Sam CS, and the songs were written by Justin Prabhakaran.
