Aamir Khan is preparing for the highly anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, but he recently clarified in an interview that the movie will not be released on any streaming platforms in the near future.
In an interview with News18 Showsha, the actor-producer shared insights on how the rise of OTT platforms—particularly post-pandemic—has significantly impacted the theatrical business. He emphasized that releasing films too quickly on streaming services diminishes the true cinematic experience, adding that he firmly believes quality films are meant to be enjoyed on the big screen.
He said, “I don’t know any business where you offer your product, and if someone doesn’t buy it, you tell them—don’t worry, I’ll drop it at your house for free in eight weeks. “It doesn’t make sense to me. That’s the reason many films aren’t doing well in theatres."
He also emphasised how the practice of watching films in theatres has been undermined by the growing trend of early OTT releases. He has purposefully chosen to release his next movie, Sitaare Zameen Par, only in theatres in order to combat this.
“I believe in theatres. I believe in my audience. If you make a good film, people will come to watch it on the big screen," Aamir added. He described the present state of the film industry to a "famine and feast" model, where only a handful of movies succeed while the majority fail to make a mark.
Aamir Khan also acknowledged that the high costs of multiplexes, such as admission, food, and the overall experience, frequently turn off viewers of mid-budget films, encouraging them to wait for an over-the-top (OTT) release. Even though it's not the most profitable path, he is still committed to making meaningful, emotional films. Sitaare Zameen Par will release on June 16, 2025 and stars Aamir along with Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles.
It is based on the Spanish film Champions. Directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohilm, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama. It is the sequel of the 2008 film Taare Zameen Par but doesn't follow the same storyline. It explore fresh arena, focusing on specially-abled children.
