Melbourne rolled out the red carpet as the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 officially commenced with a grand press conference, setting the tone for a week-long celebration of cinema.
The event witnessed the presence of some of the most celebrated figures from the Indian film industry, alongside prominent delegates from the Victorian Government.
The star-studded gathering included Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, comedian and actor Vir Das, acclaimed performers Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, and Aditi Rao Hydari, as well as visionary filmmakers Shoojit Sircar, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and R.S. Prasanna — director of Sitaare Zameen Par. Renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra also marked his presence.
Adding to the excitement was filmmaker Tanushree Das and the cast of Baksho Bondi, the highly anticipated Opening Night Film of the festival.
Speaking at the event, Aamir Khan said, “It’s great to be here in Melbourne. I’m elated to be a part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It’s a great initiative of cinema that brings people and cultures together. I’m certain the films and the filmmakers showcasing at the festival will have a great experience.”
Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik Lange expressed pride in the grand opening, calling IFFM “a vibrant meeting point for incredible stories, extraordinary talent, and a shared passion for cinema that transcends borders.” She emphasised the festival’s role in strengthening cultural ties between India and Australia.

Now in its 16th edition, IFFM 2025 promises an exciting lineup of film screenings, panel discussions, special events, and the iconic flag-hoisting ceremony on India’s Independence Day.
Set against Melbourne’s rich cultural backdrop, the festival continues to celebrate creativity, diversity, and cinematic excellence on a global stage.
