Former child actress Sophie Nyweide, best known for her role in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah (2014), has died at the age of 24. Her body was discovered on the morning of April 14 near a riverbank in Bennington, Vermont. Authorities found her around 4 a.m. close to a local high school, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bennington Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances of her death and has not ruled out foul play. Officials told TMZ that they "will consider a range of possible causes, including foul play," while they await the results of the autopsy and toxicology reports from the Vermont Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

According to police reports, Sophie was with a man at the time of her death. While his identity has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed that he is cooperating fully with the investigation. At this stage, he is neither considered a suspect nor a person of interest.

As of now, the cause of death remains undetermined. Police have stated that they are awaiting lab results before making any conclusive statements. No further details have been released regarding the events leading up to that night.

Sophie’s family confirmed her passing through a heartfelt online obituary that offered a glimpse into her internal struggles. “Sophie wrote and drew voraciously... her art and writings were roadmaps of her pain,” the tribute read. “She self-medicated to cope with the shame and trauma she carried... and rejected treatment that might have helped her.”

The obituary also reflected on the solace Sophie found in her work as an actress: “She seemed happiest on a movie set, becoming someone else. It was a safe space for her.” The family concluded their tribute with a poignant message: “May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better.”

Nyweide began acting at a young age, with early roles in Bella (2006), Margot at the Wedding (2007), and an episode of Law & Order. Her most recognized performance was in Noah, where she appeared alongside a star-studded cast.
