In the latest Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the Congress party marked a significant turnaround, securing victories in 13 out of the 15 constituencies it contested. This outcome underscores a substantial anti-incumbency sentiment.
Of Maharashtra's 48 parliamentary seats, the Congress emerged as the sole party to achieve double-digit victories.
The voter turnout for the 2024 elections stood at 61.29 percent, marginally higher than the 61.02 percent recorded in the 2019 general elections.
In Maharashtra, the Congress forged an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar and the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray.
In Chandrapur, the only seat that the Congress won in 2019, this year Pratibha Dhanorkar from the Congress secured a significant victory by defeating Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.
Another significant victory was that of former Member of Legislative Assembly from Aurangabad West, Dr. Kalyanrao Kale, of the Congress who defeated Union Minister of State Raosaheb Danve Patil from Jalna.
In Mumbai North Central, Congress’ Varsha Gaikwad defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ujjwal Nikam with a margin of 16,514 votes.
