“Earlier flags used to be installed on shops. Now, they aren’t of much use. Templates, posters, wall paintings (in view of Lok Sabha elections) were used to be there but now no such environment is there,” says Kanhaiya Lal, owner of flag and banner printing factory.

- Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Sonia Gandhi and other leaders of the party will hold a rally in Jaipur on Saturday to publicly launch its election manifesto. - Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra Gandhi will be addressing a Congress rally on Saturday at Tukkuguda near here, party sources said, PTI reported.

- Tukkuguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad is where the party had earlier announced its six poll 'guarantees' for the Assembly elections held in November last year.

- The Congress is expected to show its strength by mobilising huge crowds from surrounding areas to the 'Jana Jatara' meeting, they said.

- Industries Minister D Sridha Babu visited the venue on Friday with others. He said that about ten lakh people are expected to attend the meeting.

- The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will kick-off its Lok Sabha poll campaign in the state with a 'Ulgulan (revolution) Maha rally' scheduled at Prabhat Tara ground here on April 21, a party official said on Friday.

- This decision was taken during JMM's legislature party meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren, here on Friday. Kalpana Soren, wife of jailed former chief minister Hemant Soren, also attended the meeting.

Here's what Pradan Baruah, BJP candidate and incumbent MP from Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, said on Congress' allegations that the Assam government has neglected the region.

"Since the Modi government came in power, we have seen great infrastructure development in the last 10 years. Rail communication has been developed, Rajdhani (Express) is also running. Bogibeel bridge was completed in a short duration. The condition of the national highway has also improved. PM Modi also gave us an institute like All India Agriculture Research Institute. - Nominations of 60 per cent candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Ghaziabad and almost 56 per cent in Gautam Buddh Nagar were rejected after their scrutiny on Friday, according to local officials. In Ghaziabad, 35 candidates had filed their nominations and of those applications of 14 candidates were approved, the district's election office said in a statement.

- In adjoining Gautam Buddh Nagar, the district election office said it had received nominations from 34 candidates and 15 of them were found valid. The two constituencies had a combined 69 nominations of which 40 have been rejected. The rejection of nominations in Ghaziabad was 60 per cent while in Gautam Buddh Nagar it stood at 55.89 per cent, according to the data.

- Former Madhya Pradesh minister and four-time Congress MLA from Chhindwara Dipak Saxena and his supporters joined the BJP on Friday night.

- MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed Saxena, a close aide of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, into the ruling party.

- Saxena, who quit the Congress on March 22, said he was joining the BJP as he was influenced by the works of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Yadav and state BJP chief VD Sharma. Earlier, his son Ajay Saxena had joined the BJP. (PTI)

- Despite a strong protest raised by the ruling CPI(M) and Congress in Kerala, Doordarshan on Friday aired the controversial Bollywood movie 'The Kerala Story'. The movie was telecast at the autonomous public service broadcaster at 8 pm.

- Meanwhile, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI(M) screened a video, 'The Kerala Story True or Fake?' by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, at various places across the state to debunk the movie. The youth Congress expressed strong protest and staged a protest march to the Doordarshan office here at around 8.30 pm against the broadcast of the movie.

"PM Modi has given importance to this (parliamentary) segment because many industries have been established here by our central government. On the other hand, the people from other parties, BJD and Congress, are joining us and strengthening the party day by day," said BJP candidate from Odisha's Jagatsinghpur Bibhu Prasad Tarai on Friday.

At the Delhi headquarters of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Congress party unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Friday. Released by party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the manifesto highlighted the party's 'five pillars' and its dedication to justice.

Under the title "Nyay Patra," the manifesto prioritised "Yuva Nyay," "Naari Nyay," "Kisaan Nyay," "Shramik Nyay," and "Hissedari Nyay."

- Top Congress leaders met in Delhi on April 5 to discuss the party's Lok Sabha poll candidates for the three seats it is contesting in Delhi, with sources saying an announcement on it would be made very soon.

- The Congress is in an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and fielding candidates in three of the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital, PTI reported.
