Sitamarhi, which will vote on November 11 in the second phase of Bihar election, is expected to witness a triangular contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Jan Suraaj Party.

Sitamarhi is considered the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The NDA has promised to build it as a world-class spiritual city, if voted to power.

This initiative follows the foundation stone laying for a grand Mata Janaki Temple, planned on the lines of the Ayodhya Ram temple. The project involves significant investment for temple development and tourism-related works.

This constituency has a history of alternating political loyalties. It is considered a swing seat, with victories often oscillating between the BJP and the RJD.

Sitamarhi, constituency number 28, is in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar. It is a General seat under the Sitamarhi Lok Sabha constituency.

The key issues in this constituency reportedly are related to employment and infrastructure.
According to the Election Commission, the notification for the Sitamarhi constituency election was issued on October 13. The last date for filing nominations was October 20. Candidates were allowed to withdraw their nominations until October 23.

Who are key contenders?

The BJP has nominated Sunil Kumar Pintu, the RJD has fielded Sunil Kumar, while the Jan Suraaj Party has announced Ziauddin Khan as its candidate.

The BJP candidate has declared combined assets exceeding Rs 21 crore, jointly owned with his wife Manju Devi.

Past election results

In 2020, BJP leader Mithilesh Kumar won by a margin of 11,475 votes. His rival, RJD leader, Sunil Kumar secured 78,761 votes.

In the 2015 elections, RJD leader Sunil Kumar won the seat by securing 81,557 votes. He defeated the nearest rival Sunil Kumar Pintu of the BJP by a margin of 14,722 votes.

In 2010, Sunil Kumar alias Pintu of BJP clinched the seat by a margin of 5,221 votes over LJP's Raghwendra Kumar Singh.

The Election Commission has set November 14 as the date of results for the Sitamarhi constituency.
