Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, describing it as a historic mandate that “broke all records” and cemented the coalition’s dominance in the state. With the NDA crossing 200 seats in the 243-member Assembly, the result marks a major consolidation of support for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP-led alliance, surpassing even its strong performance in 2010.
Celebrating the outcome, PM Modi said the people of Bihar had “garda uda diya”, declaring that voters had “blown everyone away” with their overwhelming support. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party, while the RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan suffered a significant setback.
Throughout his address, the Prime Minister launched sharp attacks on the RJD and Congress, accusing them of failing to “apologise to Chhathi Maiya” after previously “calling it a drama”. He reiterated that the era of “jungle raj” would not return to Bihar and insisted that the “katta sarkar” had been decisively rejected by the electorate.
The resounding mandate, PM Modi said, reflects a powerful endorsement of the NDA’s governance model and the trust placed in it by the people of Bihar.
Here are the top quotes of PM Modi:
On West Bengal and regional momentum
“Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has also paved the way for the BJP's victory in Bengal. I also congratulate the brothers and sisters of Bengal. Now, together with you, the BJP will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well.”
On rejecting ‘jungle raj’ and ‘katta sarkar’
“When I used to speak about Jungle Raj and Katta Sarkar in the Bihar elections, the RJD raised no objections. But it hurt the Congress. Today, I want to reiterate that Katta Sarkar will never return to Bihar.”
On the scale of the Bihar mandate
“This resounding victory, this unbreakable faith… Bihar ke logon ne garda uda diya (the people of Bihar have blown everyone away).”
On the NDA’s ‘MY’ formula
“There is an old saying, ‘Loha Lohe Ko Katta Hai’. In response to the appeasement politics of some parties in Bihar, we presented our own ‘MY’ formula, which stands for ‘Mahila’ and ‘Youth’.”
On post–Lok Sabha political momentum
“After the Lok Sabha elections, we secured resounding majorities in assembly elections across several states. The soil of Haryana, which carried forward the spirit of ‘Jai Jawan—Jai Kisan’, has also strengthened this journey.”
On Bihar’s development journey
“The era of the Red Corridor and the dark days of terrorism are now part of history. Today, Bihar is relentlessly advancing on the path of development, and this progress is unstoppable. These results are a powerful response to critics who opposed Bihar’s development—those who shamelessly claimed the state didn’t need expressways, highways or industries.”
On RJD–Congress and ‘Chhathi Maiya’
“Till date, Congress and the RJD have not apologised to Chhathi Maiya. The people of Bihar will never forget this. The pride and honour of Bihar will always be our priority.”
On the Election Commission and voter turnout
“This election has strengthened the public’s trust in the Election Commission of India. The consistently high voter turnout in recent years, especially among deprived and marginalised groups, is a significant achievement and a testament to the strength of our democracy.”
On voter turnout and mandate
“The people of Bihar have voted for a developed and prosperous Bihar. During the campaign, I urged voters to turn out in record numbers—and they shattered all records. I urged them to deliver a resounding victory for the NDA, and they honoured that call.”
On the aspirations of Bihar’s youth
“Bihar today has one of the highest proportions of young people in the country—youth from every religion and caste. Their ambitions and dreams have shattered the old, communal MY formula of Jungle Raj. I especially congratulate the youth of Bihar.”
On social justice and development politics
“The nation is now voting for genuine social justice—a vision where every family receives opportunity, respect and equality. There is no place for appeasement. The era of tushtikaran has ended; the era of santushtikaran has begun. The people of India want only development.”
On the NDA’s 25-year roadmap for Bihar
“With the new government, the NDA is moving forward towards a golden 25-year journey in Bihar. Bihar has ensured that jungle raj will never return. This victory belongs to the sisters and daughters who suffered under jungle raj, and to the young men whose futures were damaged by Congress and the Left. Today’s result is a mandate for development over dynastic politics.”
On serving the people
“We are the servants of the people. We work hard to ensure their welfare, and we have won their hearts. That is why the entire state has said, ‘Phir ek baar NDA Sarkar’.”
On the scale of the NDA’s historic mandate
“After 2010, Bihar has delivered its strongest mandate to the NDA. I wholeheartedly thank the people of Bihar for their support on behalf of all parties within the alliance.”
