Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and Andhra Pradesh chief minister-elect N Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh said the party will provide unconditional support to Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance’s efforts to form the government at the Centre, according to a report.

However, TDP general secretary Lokesh said the state expects support for special category status from the Centre to fulfill the promises made at the time of the division of the united Andhra, according to a report by The Economic Times.

Lokesh also said that the party expects funds for the development of Amravati as the capital of the state and the development of Polavaram dam, along with preference in performance-linked schemes for the state, the report said.

He said the state is new and it will need some backing from the Centre. The state wants to become a hub for electronics, automobile and ports, Lokesh said in the interview.

Moreover, the TDP leader said the party wants to work with different themes across the state. "We want to create 20 lakh jobs in the next 5 years and for that we need to create a robust economy," Lokesh told CNNNews18 in another interview on June 7.

He also added that strong states make strong nation. "We look forward to work with Narendra Modi," Lokesh said.

On June 4, TDP rose back to power after winning 135 seats out of 175 in the state assembly elections, providing a crushing blow to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP, which managed to secure only 11 seats.

TDP’s alliance partners Jana Sena Party won 21 seats, while BJP managed to clinch eight seats in the state assembly elections.

Lokesh, who won from Mangalagiri Assembly segment, said the people of the state have given the NDA greater responsibility by way of a huge victory.

On the national front, Lokesh’s party also came out on top with 16 seats, with the BJP managing three seats. YSRCP managed to hold its fort on just 4 constituencies.
