In a major development, the US administration on May 27 warned international students, including Indians, that skipping classes may lead to revocation of visa.
According to the US Embassy, students who miss classes without informing their colleges may risk cancellation of their visas or they may not be able to apply for US visa in the future.
"If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas. Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues," the US Embassy for India said in a post on X.

The directive is likely to further add to the concerns among the international student community in the US. President Donald Trump-led administration has already carried out major deportation drive earlier in the year. The move is seen as targeting both illegal and legal immigrants.
Recently, Trump had claimed that foreign students pay nothing during his tirade against Harvard University, where his administration has cancelled its right to enroll foreign students. Harvard has challenged the directive.

Moreover, the US Embassy had also warned Indian immigrants against staying beyond the authorized period.
“If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States in the future," US Embassy in India had said in a post.
Additionally, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had asked foreign students on Optional Practical Training (OPT) visas to report to their jobs within 90 days of the beginning of OPT, failing which their status in Student and Exchange Visitor Information System would be revoked.
