The West Bengal Class 10 board examinations, known as Madhyamik, began on Monday, February 10, and will continue until February 22. A significant number of students, approximately 9.84 lakh, are registered to take the exams at 2,683 centers spread across the state.
According to Ramanuj Ganguly, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, the first day of the three-hour exams, which commenced at 11 am, proceeded without any major disruptions or reported incidents. "The exams are going smoothly so far," Ganguly told PTI.
Of the total 9,84,753 candidates, a majority, 5,55,950, are female students, highlighting the substantial participation of girls in the examination.
The Board has implemented strict measures to ensure the integrity of the exams. Mobile phones and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited within the examination halls, not only for students but also for invigilators and officials involved in the exam process.
In Malda district, which has seen past incidents of alleged, though ultimately fake, question paper leaks on social media, heightened security measures are in place. A Board official confirmed that all 122 exam centers in Malda are now equipped with CCTV surveillance to prevent any potential malpractice. These enhanced security measures aim to maintain the fairness and transparency of the examination process for all students.
