UGC NET Exam 2024 Begins Tomorrow: Check Important Instructions and Guidelines Here

UGC NET 2024 begins 3 January and continues until 16 January. Check key instructions, guidelines, and information on exam structure and required items for candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will begin the UGC NET 2024 December session exam from 3 January 2024. The examination will continue until 16 January 2024. It will cover 85 subjects and be conducted in an OMR (pen-and-paper) format at various centres across India.

The exam will take place in two shifts:

  • Shift 1: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Shift 2: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Exam Structure

The UGC NET 2024 exam consists of two papers:

  • Paper 1:

  1. 50 questions
  2. 100 marks
  3. Covers general skills like awareness, reading comprehension, reasoning, research aptitude, and teaching ability.

  • Paper 2:

  1. 100 questions
  2. 200 marks
  3. Focuses on the candidate’s chosen subject.

The test is used to determine eligibility for the roles of assistant professor and junior research fellow in Indian universities.

Essential Items to Carry

Candidates must bring the following to the examination centre:

  • A printed copy of the admit card.
  • One passport-size photograph.
  • A valid photo ID (such as PAN card, driving licence, passport, or Aadhaar card) with a name matching the admit card.

The official notice advises candidates to read and follow all instructions mentioned on the admit card.

Items Prohibited at the Exam Centre

The use of electronic devices is strictly forbidden. Any candidate caught with such items or engaging in malpractice will face strict penalties, including:

  • Being debarred for three years.
  • Criminal action or other disciplinary measures.

Exam Guidelines to Follow

  • Arrive at the examination centre at least two hours before the test begins to allow time for frisking and registration. The registration desk will close 30 minutes prior to the start of the exam.
  • Take your seat as soon as the examination hall opens. Late arrivals due to traffic or other delays may lead to missing important instructions.
  • Verify that you have received the correct question paper. If the subject does not match your admit card, inform the invigilator immediately.
  • Sit only in your designated seat as per your roll number.
