Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced that Saturday, September 6, will be observed as a general holiday in view of the Ganesh idol immersion procession. The order will be applicable to all government offices, schools and colleges across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
The decision has been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the annual Ganesh immersion, which attracts large public participation every year. Extensive traffic management and security arrangements are made during the procession in the twin cities, and a holiday has been declared to reduce inconvenience for commuters and institutions.
To balance the working days, the government has also notified that October 11, which falls on the second Saturday, will now be observed as a working day. This will apply to all government institutions and educational establishments in the affected districts.
The Ganesh immersion marks the culmination of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and sees thousands of idols being taken in processions for immersion across Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.
