The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has rolled out a comprehensive support plan for in-service teachers affected by the recent Supreme Court order making the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory.
This decisive action comes as a direct response to the court's ruling, which impacts approximately 1.76 lakh teachers across the state. To ensure their success, the department has unveiled a multi-faceted initiative that includes a specialized online training program and the conduction of three special TET exams scheduled for the next year.
Recognizing the need for targeted preparation, the state has entrusted the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) with leading a district-wise online training program. This initiative is strategically designed to provide subject-specific educational guidance, equipping teachers with the necessary tools to clear the qualifying exam.
A key instruction from SCERT to all District Education and Training Institutes mandates that all syllabus and guidance documents for this training be finalized and distributed by November 17, paving the way for online sessions to commence statewide shortly after.
Training Features for Teacher Success
The virtual training program is structured to offer end-to-end support for teachers from Class 1 to 10. Its core features include:
To ensure the program's effectiveness and wide reach, the government is establishing a robust support framework. District-level coordinators will be appointed to manage logistics, including training timings, login links, and technical assistance.
By empowering its educators with structured training, clear guidance, and multiple examination opportunities, the Tamil Nadu government aims to transform a regulatory mandate into a positive step for professional development and academic excellence.
