Schools and Anganwadi centers in Dehradun have been closed today in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city for the inauguration of the 38th National Games. The decision was announced by the Dehradun District Magistrate under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to ensure smooth arrangements during the Prime Minister's visit.

According to an official notice, "A one-day holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Dehradun district on January 28, 2025. The Chief Education Officer and District Program Officer have been directed to ensure the implementation of this order across schools and Anganwadi centers."

Prime Minister Modi’s day is packed with major events. He will begin the morning by inaugurating the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar at 11 AM. Later in the evening, around 6 PM, he will travel to Dehradun to kick off the 38th National Games, a highly anticipated event marking Uttarakhand's Silver Jubilee year.

The 38th National Games, hosted in Uttarakhand for the first time, will take place across 11 cities in 8 districts from January 28 to February 14, 2025. Athletes from 36 states and one union territory will compete in 35 sporting disciplines, with medals awarded in 33 categories and two designated as exhibition sports.

In a historic first, Yoga and Mallakhamb have been included as part of the games. The event will see participation from over 10,000 athletes nationwide, making it one of the largest sporting events in the country.

This year’s theme, "Green Games," emphasizes sustainability. A unique initiative called the Sports Forest will be developed near the venue, where over 10,000 saplings will be planted by athletes and dignitaries. Additionally, medals and certificates for winners have been crafted using eco-friendly, biodegradable materials, aligning with the green initiative.
