On 5th anniversary of NEP 2020, ministry of education launched landmark initiatives to transform Indian education

India marks 5 years of NEP 2020 with global university tie-ups, AI tools, green schools, and 1,000+ new hostels to reshape inclusive, tech-driven education.

Celebrating the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Ministry of Education today launched a sweeping set of initiatives across school and higher education to further India’s transformation into a learner-centric, inclusive, and globally competitive knowledge society.

From inaugurating infrastructure projects to launching AI-powered learning tools and deepening international academic collaborations, the event demonstrated NEP 2020’s vision in action.

Major Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated

To strengthen educational infrastructure nationwide, key institutions under the Education Ministry celebrated the occasion with a series of new building inaugurations and foundation stone-laying ceremonies.

  • CBSE: A newly constructed Regional Office in Digha, Patna was inaugurated to enhance administrative reach and service delivery.
  • Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS): Permanent campuses and dormitories across 11 JNVs in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir were inaugurated.
  • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS): New KVs were inaugurated in Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, expanding access to quality education.
  • NCERT: Foundation stones were laid for the Regional Institute of Education in Nellore and a Central Administrative Building at NCERT Headquarters, New Delhi.

Hostel Infrastructure for Tribal Students

As part of two flagship tribal upliftment initiatives aligned with NEP goals:

  • PM-JANMAN: Aimed at Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), the mission sanctioned 492 hostels to date, with 75 new hostels across 8 states launched today at a cost of Rs 187.35 crore.
  • DAJGUA: Under the ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’, 309 hostels were announced today across 12 states (Rs 1190.34 crore), contributing to a total of 692 approved hostels under the scheme.

Digital & Tech Innovations in Education

In keeping with NEP 2020’s digital-first approach, the Education Ministry unveiled several digital tools and learning platforms:

  • TARA App: A revolutionary AI-powered tool deployed in over 1,200 KVs to assess and improve reading fluency for Grades 3–8, supporting data-driven instruction and learning outcomes.
  • My Career Advisor App: A personalized career guidance app offering 1,000+ career pathways for school students, integrating interests, aptitudes, and future prospects. The app is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India, NCERT-PSSCIVE and the Wadhwani Foundation. "The app goes beyond traditional guidance to include over 1,500 job roles, covering both degree and vocational pathways. With assessments rooted in aptitude, interest, values, and passions, My Career Advisor ensures each student sees a future that reflects their unique strengths and ambitions. This aligns strongly with the national skilling agenda-making early career discovery inclusive, data-driven, and actionable for every Indian student, and equipping families, teachers, and administrators to participate meaningfully in the process," Gopal Devanhali, President, Skilling - Global, Wadhwani Foundation.
  • Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR): A revised 5-star green school rating system covering water, sanitation, hygiene, and sustainability, developed in partnership with UNICEF and NCERT.

Higher Education: Global Ties & AI-Driven Learning

In a major boost to internationalization of higher education under NEP 2020, Letters of Intent (LoIs) were presented to foreign universities for establishing campuses in India:

  • Western Sydney University (Australia) – Greater Noida
  • Victoria University (Australia) – Noida
  • La Trobe University (Australia) – Bengaluru
  • University of Bristol (UK) – Mumbai

These institutions will offer UG and PG programs in business, AI, public health, and data science—delivering global-quality education within India.

Cutting-Edge Curricula and Platforms

  • IIT BHU & IIT Delhi: Introduced flexible New Age Curricula for B.Tech., M.Tech., and PhD programs emphasizing interdisciplinary learning, internships, and outcomes-based design.
  • ViBe Platform (IIT Ropar): An AI-powered learning engine ensuring active, mastery-based learning for students and real-time analytics for educators.
  • Bhasha Sagar App: Promotes multilingual learning across 22 Indian languages, aligned with Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
  • Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems & KoshaSHRI Portal: Launched to digitize and preserve India’s Sanskrit lexicon and cultural knowledge via the Encyclopaedic Dictionary project.

New Building Inaugurations Across Institutes

Key infrastructure inaugurations today included:

  • Students’ Hostel and Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship (DSSE), IIT Bombay
  • Central Universities in Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Punjab
  • Academic blocks and hostels at NITs in Bhopal, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli, Delhi, and Raipur

National Recognition and Exhibitions

  • 613 best-performing PM SHRI schools, 24 top KVs, and 7 top NVS institutions were identified for dedication to the nation.
  • 22 KVS projects were also officially dedicated as model centers of learning.
  • A short film and exhibition were showcased, highlighting experiential learning, AI integration, inclusive infrastructure, and community engagement in line with NEP objectives.

Future-Ready Themes at ABSS 2025

The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2025 featured high-impact thematic sessions on:

  • Bharatiya Bhasha in education
  • Anusandhan and Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)
  • Achieving 100% GER in secondary education by 2030
  • AI's transformative role in education

Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, who presided over the celebrations, emphasized that the NEP 2020 is not just a policy but a movement—“a roadmap to transform India into a knowledge superpower.”
