Pooshan Mohapatra, a 24-year-old from Cuttack, has secured the first rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) courses. The results were published on Tuesday by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), which conducted the exam on August 3.
Mohapatra scored 707 out of 800 marks to achieve the All-India Rank (AIR) 1. He recently completed his MBBS from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
In a statement, Mohapatra said he had hoped for a good rank but did not expect to be the national topper. He stated that he began preparing seriously after completing his internship in March. "Focused preparation between April and August helped me to get this rank," he added. His preparation involved taking notes and watching video lectures online.
His parents own a printing and publishing house in Cuttack. Mohapatra cited his elder sister, Chetna, who is pursuing a postgraduate degree in ENT at SCB Medical College, as a significant source of support during his preparation.
Regarding his future plans, Mohapatra said he intends to pursue a postgraduate degree in Medicine or Radiology. He has not yet decided on a college and will make his choice before the counselling process begins.
