The Kerala government has announced that all schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the state will remain closed on Saturday, 7 June 2025, in observance of Bakrid (Eid al-Adha). This comes after the government rescheduled the public holiday, which was earlier declared for Friday, 6 June.
The updated government order states that the holiday will now fall on 7 June to ensure it aligns with the actual date of the festival, based on updated Islamic observances. As a result, government offices, public sector undertakings, professional colleges, and all institutions covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, will remain shut on the revised date.
Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Dr. R. Bindu, shared the announcement on her official Facebook page. The decision was further confirmed by Minister for General Education and Labour, V. Sivankutty, who stated that all schools from Class 1 to Class 12 will remain closed on 7 June.
Meanwhile, Friday, 6 June, will now be treated as a regular working day across the state. Educational institutions, including professional colleges, will function as usual on that day.
With this change, all related establishments, including schools and colleges, will now observe the Bakrid holiday on Saturday, 7 June 2025.
