In a move to promote inclusivity and cater to students facing limitations with English, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur announced on Tuesday that it will begin offering BTech courses in Hindi alongside English starting this academic session. This initiative follows IIT-BHU, which became the first IIT to introduce Hindi as a medium of instruction for BTech programs.
To ensure consistent quality across both languages, officials at IIT Jodhpur have stated that the same instructor will handle first-year courses for both English and Hindi sections. This approach aims to guarantee the same level of academic rigor and learning experience for students regardless of their chosen language of instruction.
"The Senate in its recent meeting approved the proposal to teach courses in Hindi and English. The Senate noted that IIT-Jodhpur, being at the forefront of technology, science, humanities, and management, is expected to impart education in the native language to help the students who face challenges in learning because of inadequacy in English proficiency," IIT-Jodhpur said in an official statement.
"The institute will start with teaching BTech first-year courses in both English and Hindi. Before the commencement of classes, two sections will be identified based on the preferences given by BTech first-year students for Hindi and English lectures," it added.
The Ministry of Education also made this announcement through the social media platform X (previously Twitter). "The Ministry of Education is pleased to share that will now offer B. Tech 1st year courses in both Hindi and English, beginning this academic year! This initiative is designed to ensure all students can learn effectively in the language they are most comfortable with. Both sections will be taught by the same instructor, maintaining consistency and quality. This is a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and supportive educational environment at IIT Jodhpur," reads the post.
