The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced a revised result for the 12th class after a major error was detected in the evaluation process, according to a report by Amar Ujala. The controversy arose due to a mix-up in the English exam papers, leading to incorrect marks being awarded to students.
The issue began when the English subject examination for Class 12, originally scheduled for March 8, was abruptly cancelled on March 7. In Chuwari (Chamba district), the wrong question paper bundle was opened—instead of the 10th-class English paper, the 12th-class paper was distributed.
Upon discovering the mistake, the board cancelled the exam and conducted a re-test later. However, due to an administrative error, the final results were prepared based on the cancelled paper's evaluation, leading to discrepancies in students' scores.
When the results were declared, students and educators noticed unusual scoring patterns, particularly in the English paper. Dr. Mamaraj Pundir, former state general secretary of the All India National Educational Federation, raised concerns, stating, “It’s surprising that even the topper scored only 90 in English, while securing full marks in other subjects. How can a student who gets 100 elsewhere fail to cross 80 in English?”
Pundir demanded a re-evaluation and appealed to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, and Board Secretary to ensure fair results. Following an investigation, HPBOSE admitted the error and decided to release a revised result. Officials confirmed that the correct answer sheets will now be considered to ensure accuracy.
The revised results will be published soon on the official HPBOSE website (hpbose.org). Students dissatisfied with their marks can still apply for rechecking or re-evaluation once the updated scores are released.
