In response to the deteriorating air quality in the Delhi-NCR region, the Haryana government has ordered the closure of schools in seven districts. Schools up to Class 5 will remain closed in Panipat, Karnal, Bhiwani, Rohtak, Jind, Rewari, and Nuh. Additionally, schools up to Class 12 will be shut in Faridabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, and Sonepat until November 23.
To ensure uninterrupted education during the school closures, online classes will be conducted for all affected students. The decision to close schools was taken due to the significant increase in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in these regions. As of Tuesday morning, the AQI in Faridabad was recorded at 450, while Gurugram's AQI was at 394.
The government is closely monitoring the air quality situation and will make further decisions as needed.
In view of the worsening Air Quality Index, the Supreme Court has mandated that the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab enforce Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) without further delay.
