Major Boost for Higher Education Announced by FM Nirmala Sitharaman

In a significant push for higher education, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during her Budget speech that the total student capacity across 23 IITs has doubled over the past decade, reaching 1.35 lakh. To further strengthen technical education, IIT Patna will undergo expansion, ensuring better infrastructure and academic facilities.

Additionally, the government has allocated resources to enhance infrastructure in five IITs, creating space for 6,500 more students.

In the medical sector, Sitharaman also revealed a major expansion plan, with 10,000 additional seats in medical colleges set to be added next year, addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the country.
