The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has announced the postponement of the School Management Committee (SMC) elections that were originally scheduled for May 9 in all government schools.
In an official notification issued on Thursday, the department cited a combination of low nomination turnout and the upcoming summer vacation as reasons behind the deferral. According to the circular, very few applications were received from eligible parents, guardians, and social workers, prompting stakeholders to seek an extension for submissions.
The DoE also noted that with summer holidays beginning on May 10, many families are expected to travel out of the city, which would further limit voter participation in the election process.
To facilitate broader involvement from the school community and ensure a fair election, the department has decided to reschedule the process. A revised timeline will be shared after schools reopen post the summer vacation.
Applicants who have already submitted their nominations will not need to reapply when the new schedule is announced, the notification clarified.
