Chandigarh: All schools in Chandigarh, including government, government aided, and private institutions, will remain closed on Monday, 18 August. The announcement was made by Punjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria during the Independence Day celebrations held at the Parade Ground on Friday.
Governor Kataria, who was the chief guest at the event, declared the school holiday while addressing the gathering. The decision applies to all students and teaching staff across the city.
The administration stated that this holiday has been given for the convenience of students and schools. While no specific reason was mentioned in detail, the order ensures that all educational institutions in Chandigarh will observe a complete closure on Monday.
Earlier in the day, on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, Governor Kataria hoisted the National Flag and spoke about the values of unity, patriotism, and progress. The event also included cultural programmes such as patriotic songs and performances by school children, which reflected India’s heritage and history.
The school holiday means that all academic and administrative activities will remain suspended for the day. However, normal functioning will resume from Tuesday, 19 August.
