Chandigarh School Timings Revised Amid Cold Weather; Check New Winter Schedule Here

Chandigarh has revised school timings amid cold weather, with classes for students up to 8th being held online. Physical classes for higher grades will start after 9:30 AM.

January 07, 2025 / 15:22 IST

The Chandigarh Administration has announced a revision of school timings for all government, government-aided, and recognised private schools due to the ongoing cold weather and dense fog. These changes are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students during this harsh winter season.

The weather in Chandigarh has turned particularly cold, with the minimum temperature recorded at 9 Degree Celsius on January 4, 2025. The thick fog and chilly mornings have made it difficult for students to attend school early in the day. In response, the Chandigarh Administration has decided to adjust school timings to ensure that students are not exposed to the cold during early hours.

New School Timings for Winter

As per the updated schedule issued by the Chandigarh Administration:

  • Classes 9 to 12: Morning shift schools will now begin after 9:30 AM and will end at 3:30 PM.
  • Classes up to 8: Physical classes have been suspended, and online classes will be held instead, starting from 9:00 AM.
  • Pre-Board Classes: Schools organising pre-board exams may open at 9:00 AM, with staff timings adjusted accordingly.

These changes are applicable to all government and private schools in Chandigarh, both for students and staff.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 9 Degree Celsius. Dense fog has also disrupted visibility in the city, leading to cancellations of flights at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport. Flights to Mumbai and Delhi have been cancelled due to poor visibility caused by the fog.
