Aruna Hotels Ltd.

The  company  was  promoted  by Dr P  Maruthai  Pillai,  a  first
 generation  industrialist.  Dr Pillai, after  studying  upto  Sr. 
 Cambridge in Srilanka, came to India and set up his own business.  
 
 The company was incorporated on 9.9.1960 under the name and style  of
 Aruna Sugars Limited as a Public Limited Company and  obtained  the 
 certificate of Commencement of Business on  24.12.1960. In 1986 the 
 name of the Company was changed as Aruna Sugars & Enterprises Limited
 to reflect the diversified nature of Business. The company first set
 up a sugar plant with a crushing capacity of 1,250 tcd at Pennadam,
 South Arcot District, Tamil Nadu. Over the years, through a series of
 modernisation and expansion programmes, the capacity has been expanded
  to its present level of 5000 tcd.
 
 In  1986, the Company diversified its activities by  taking  over 
 through  auction  by T I I C Ltd the assets, then  owned  by  SAS 
 Chemicals  (Madras) Pvt Ltd, a sick unit at Ranipet, North  Arcot 
 District, Tamil Nadu, which has facilities for the manufacture of 30 
 tpd ferric alum. The alum plant has been revamped and is  now  working
 satisfactorily.
 
 In 1987 the Company further diversified its activities by  taking 
 over  the assets of Geetha Flour Mills Ltd at Tiruvalla, Kerala, with
  a  milling capacity of 100 tpd of wheat.  This is now a division of
 the Company.
 
 During the same period, the Company also entered the field of
 exports. At present, these activities comprise merchant  exports of
 ready-made knitted and woven garments, silk and silk  fabrics,
 shoe-uppers, etc.
 
 The Company has put up a Business class Hotel and is also putting  up
  a Distillery Project which is expected to be commissioned  by 
 October 1993 as part of the further diversification plans.
 
 The  Sugar Division would contribute about 75% of  the  Company's 
 sales and other divisions contribute about 25%.

 -Aruna Sugars & Enterprises Ltd. has changed its name to Aruna
 Sunrise Hotels Ltd.

 The company issued rights shares of Rs. 10 in the ratio of 83:30 at
 par.
