The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru as some parts of the city are set to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming hours.
Karnataka IMD Scientist N Puviarasan said, "We are giving alerts for heavy rainfall in Bengaluru for today and tomorrow. Most places will receive light to moderate rainfall and heavy rain is likely at a few places...We expect extremely heavy rainfall tomorrow over coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas like Shivamogga, Chikamangaluru and Belagavi."
"Rains will continue for the next 4-5 days...Yellow alert is for Bengaluru and today is an orange alert for coastal Karnataka while red alert is for tomorrow," he added.
This comes one day after heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the city. Due to the heavy downpour in the city, several roads were affected in parts of north Bengaluru, such as Hennur, while Rajajinagar to the west, Richmond Town in the city centre, Marathahalli in the east, and Sarjapur, Electronics City, and BTM Layout in the south.
On Tuesday, the rainfall mostly affected several low-lying junctions and underpasses, reports suggested. Heavy waterlogging was reported at the Maharani College underpass and Basaveshwara Circle. Reports said that the commuters were forced to navigate knee-deep water.
Meanwhile, in RR Nagar and Kengeri, residents experienced loud thunder and lightning, though rainfall was relatively less intense. Weather forecaster Dr Pradeep said that some areas of Bengaluru recorded up to 85 mm of rain in a short span. Rainfall in some areas of the city also led to water stagnation, traffic snarls and flooding fears as the city currently stares at a heavy monsoon.
