Seemanth Kumar Singh, a 1996 batch IPS officer, was on Thursday posted as Bengaluru Police Commissioner until further orders, an official notification said.

His appointment comes just hours after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the suspension of four senior officials, including the Commissioner, DCP (Central), ACP, and Additional Commissioner (West) for dereliction of duty in connection with Wednesday's stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed the lives of 11 people and injured over 50 people, NDTV reported.

"Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS (KN: 1996), Additional Director General of Police, Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force, Bengaluru, is transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders as Additional Director General of Police & Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, Bengaluru," the notification stated.

Who is Seemanth Kumar Singh?

Singh, who hails from Bihar, will be the 39th person to hold the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner position, according to a report by The Hindu. Before this, Singh worked as the Additional Director-General of Police with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force.

He has also served as the head of the Anti-Naxal Force in Udupi and was the Commissioner of Police in Mangaluru from 2010 to 2012. Earlier, he was also the Superintendent of Police in Dakshina Kannada and Ballari, especially during a time when illegal mining was a major issue.

His name was mentioned in a list of officers under CBI investigation for not taking action against mining businessman G Janardhana Reddy. He also held senior positions in the Anti-Corruption Bureau and Western Range.

In 2021, Singh gained praise for his humanitarian work during the Covid-19 crisis, providing about 100 oxygen concentrators to rural hospitals. For his dedicated service, he received the President’s Medal in 2014, The Hindu reported.
