The Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway surpassed Rs 4,485 crore in commercial revenue for the financial year 2024-25, marking its highest ever commercial revenue in a financial year.

Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway, highlighted the segments that together helped push revenue figures to an all-time high.

“The division saw record revenues in segments like Passenger Revenue (Suburban and Non-Suburban), PRS (Passenger Reservation System), freight, parking, catering, and AC EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) services. Passenger revenue itself accounted for more than Rs 3,782 crore, an all-time high,” said Vineet Abhishek, Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO).

According to the Railways, growing ridership of AC local trains was also instrumental in driving revenue growth. In 2024-25, over 4.65 crore commuters used AC locals, generating approximately Rs 215 crore. This marks a sharp increase compared to the previous year, when 3.64 crore passengers generated Rs 168 crore. On average, each AC EMU service earned Rs 47,863, which is nearly four times the Rs 13,548 generated by non-AC services.

The upward trend was also reflected in daily ridership numbers, which saw a significant jump from 1,08,910 in March 2024 to 1,63,265 by March 2025.

Additionally, revenue from parking and catering services contributed Rs 14 crore and Rs 16 crore, respectively. Enhanced digital services, improved crowd management strategies, and modernised ticketing systems have also supported passenger convenience and overall revenue growth, the CPRO said.

He noted that infrastructure upgrades and freight-friendly policies further strengthened operational capabilities. These improvements not only enhanced efficiency but also expanded revenue avenues for the division.

Western Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Misra praised the team for this financial achievement. “The continued momentum and the multiple revenue streams indicated a balanced strategy,” he said.
