The Uttar Pradesh government is in process of developing a 17-kilometre-long nature walk Pathway along the Yamuna River, connecting the holy towns of Vrindavan and Gokul. Estimated to cost around Rs 50 crore, this project aims to blend spirituality with sustainability, providing pilgrims and tourists with an immersive experience rooted in nature and heritage, a statement said on Tuesday.

The development of the pathway is being spearheaded by the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad in coordination with the Forest and Wildlife Department of the state. According to officials, the pathway will be two meters wide and run parallel to the riverbank, offering a scenic, walkable route through the culturally rich landscape associated with Lord Krishna, The Indian Express reported.

In a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently, officials said the pathway would highlight the natural beauty that lies between Vrindavan and Gokul. One of the key highlights of the project is the extensive plantation of native flora along both sides of the path. The Forest Department will plant a variety of indigenous plant species to foster biodiversity, enrich the green cover, and maintain the ecological balance of the riverine region.

The path will also feature essential amenities such as fencing for safety, lighting for visibility during early morning and evening hours, and well-maintained toilet facilities to ensure comfort for visitors, The Indian Express report said.

According to the government, the pilgrims and tourists would now experience the natural serenity of the religious place on foot, amidst the greenery and calm of the Yamuna’s banks, the statement said.

The Nature Walk Pathway is a central component of the broader Mathura Vision 2030 plan, which envisions a comprehensive transformation of the region through 195 developmental projects valued at Rs 30,080 crore. Out of these, 23 projects worth Rs 2,300 crore have already received official approval.
