A couple from Visakhapatnam has made a remarkable donation to the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati by presenting a golden Yagnopaveetam (sacred thread). Weighing 3.86 kg and valued at Rs 3.86 crore, the offering was made on September 24, the day the Brahmotsavam festival began.
The donors, Puvvada Mastan Rao and his wife, Kumkuma Rekha, handed over the sacred thread at Ranganayakula Mandapam inside the temple premises, according to a press release by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
In appreciation of their devotion, TTD Chairman B R Naidu honoured them with Srivari Theertha Prasadam, the holy water offering.
The Yagnopaveetam, which symbolises sacredness and spiritual purity, is a symbol of the couple’s deep reverence for Lord Venkateswara, the deity of the Tirupati temple, which holds the title of being the wealthiest Hindu shrine in the world, the press release said.
TTD’s new temple plansAlongside this special donation, the TTD also announced expansion plans to bring the Lord’s blessings closer to devotees in different parts of India. Board member S Naresh Kumar revealed that the TTD has approved the construction of a new temple in Belagavi, Karnataka, during a press conference at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Malleswaram, CNBC TV18 reported.
The upcoming temple, to be built near Suvarna Soudha, is aimed at serving devotees from North Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, reducing the need for long journeys to Tirumala.
Similar to temples already established in Bengaluru and other cities, this project is expected to provide easier access to darshan and rituals. The temple will be supported by the Srivani Trust, which funds TTD’s outreach projects.
“This temple will ensure devotees in this part of the country do not have to travel all the way to Tirumala. They can now seek the Lord’s blessings locally,” Kumar said.
TTD Chairman B R Naidu is expected to visit Belagavi soon to review the site and monitor the progress of the project.
