A vast 500-acre site along the Madurai-Thoothukudi national highway is the stage for what is poised to be a significant political gathering on August 21, as the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) holds its second state conference.

The event, to be held at Parapathi in Kariyapatti taluk, is expected to draw colossal crowds, with organisers having arranged a staggering 1.5 lakh seats for attendees.

The conference is scheduled to commence at 3.30 pm and conclude by 7.30 pm. It will open not with political speeches, but with traditional cultural performances. Folk artists from Thanjavur and Madurai are set to perform Karakattam, Oilattam and Silambattam to set the tone for the afternoon.

The party’s president, Vijay, will officially inaugurate the conference with a special flag-hoisting ceremony. He is then expected to address the assembled party workers and public from a massive purpose-built stage around 4 pm. Elaborate arrangements, including a ramp, have been constructed to allow him to walk among the volunteers.

His speech is highly anticipated, with expectations it will be a powerful address aimed at political opponents and designed to energise the party cadre ahead of the crucial 2026 state assembly elections.

In a letter to cadres cited in the Oneindia report, Vijay framed the upcoming 2026 polls as a historic event, drawing comparisons with the landmark elections of 1967 and 1977. He stated that the Madurai conference would embody TVK's vision of "Conscience Democracy" and outline its future political direction.

Preparations have been conducted at full throttle, with banners and party flags already adorning the venue. To manage the expected influx of lakhs of volunteers, executives and members of the public, six dedicated parking facilities have been established for administrators and officials.

The scale of the event is likely to cause significant traffic disruption. In a precautionary move, private schools and colleges in the Kariyapatti and Aviyur areas will remain closed tomorrow to avoid inconvenience.

Vijay has already arrived in Madurai to personally oversee the final arrangements. He recently held a meeting with party executives, urging members to maintain what he called "military-like discipline" throughout the event. He also advised senior citizens, pregnant women, children and differently-abled supporters to follow the proceedings from home for their own safety.

Striking an optimistic note for his party workers, he closed his communication with a confident message as cited by Oneindia: "We will meet in Madurai with open hearts. We will win through strategy. Victory is certain."
