The PM will also inaugurate the Chenab bridge, which is 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.

DGP Nalin Prabhat conducted a high-level meeting on Monday and directed the officers to ensure fool proof security.

The elite Special Protection Group (SPG), tasked with the Prime Minister’s security, has taken over the control of the security at the event venue in Katra.

The Northern Railway has been conducting the trial run of trains between Kashmir and Jammu for more than two months. At present, rail service in Kashmir is limited only from Baramulla to Sangaldan. Long distance trains coming to Katra stop there. But now this Vande Bharat Express will go directly from Katra to Srinagar.

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last week had flagged the high air fares for Srinagar-bound domestic flights, adding that he he hoped the new Vande Bharat train connecting Jammu with Srinagar will bring some relief for the travellers.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will also be present at the event.
