A late-night bike ride ended in tragedy when two young professionals were killed after their high-speed Ducati Scrambler smashed through safety railings and plunged into an under-construction underpass in Greater Noida West. The incident occurred near the Char Murti roundabout in the early hours of Tuesday.
The victims, identified as Ankur Singh (28) and Kashish (25), were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash, police confirmed. According to reports, Ankur had picked up Kashish from her residence in the 14th Avenue apartment complex around 2:30 am before the accident. The duo was likely heading towards Ankur’s home in Panchsheel Greens-2 when the bike lost control at high speed, rammed through an iron guardrail and fell into a 7-foot-deep pit, News18 reported.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the powerful bike breaking through the railing before crashing into the pit, which was dug up for an underpass project. Police said the impact was so severe that the sandbags placed behind the guardrail failed to cushion the fall. Both victims reportedly landed on construction debris or machinery inside the pit, sustaining fatal injuries.

They were rushed to the District Hospital in Sector 39 but were declared dead on arrival. "They were brought in with severe trauma. Neither had a helmet on," Dr Renu Aggarwal, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital, was quoted by TOI.
The Ducati Scrambler, a premium bike worth around Rs 9 lakh, remained largely intact after the crash, authorities noted. With no eyewitnesses present at the time, investigators are relying on CCTV footage and site inspections to piece together the sequence of events.
The accident spot, also known as Gaur Chowk, is part of a major infrastructure overhaul in Greater Noida West, where a 700-metre underpass is being built to ease traffic congestion on the Taj Expressway. Greater Noida Authority officials stated that diversion signs and barricades were already in place, but additional safety measures are now being implemented.
"It seems the vehicle was at high speed. We’ve directed immediate upgrades - reflective tapes, better-lit zones and reinforced barriers. A coordination meeting with traffic police is also being scheduled to deploy night-time personnel," TOI cited Prerna Singh, Additional CEO of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA).
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of speeding and riding without helmets. Uttar Pradesh has already recorded nearly 7,700 road fatalities between January and May this year, with Noida alone reporting 462 deaths in 2023.
