A senior producer with a prominent news channel was chased, harassed and had her car windows smashed by two men on a scooty during a terrifying late-night drive from her office in Noida to her home in Delhi, according to a report by the NDTV.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, around 12.45 am, as the woman was returning to her residence in Vasant Kunj after finishing work at the channel's Sector-129 office in Noida.
As she drove her Ford Figo along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, she noticed two men on a scooty begin to follow her. The NDTV report detailed how the men attempted to block her vehicle and gestured for her to stop. Ignoring them initially, the journalist grew increasingly alarmed and began recording the men on her phone in an attempt to ward them off.
The situation escalated when her car slowed due to traffic. The pillion rider dismounted, approached her vehicle and banged on the front window. He then moved to the driver's side and attempted to open the locked door.
"I sped my car and somehow managed to reach the DND Flyway. However, the two men kept following me," the journalist reportedly said. She recounted contacting a colleague for advice, who instructed her to keep driving and not stop.
The harassment intensified further when the pillion rider produced a wooden object and proceeded to smash the car's rear windscreen and the left rear window.
Her ordeal only ended upon reaching the Lajpat Nagar area, where she spotted a group of taxi drivers. Alerted to her distress, the drivers instructed her to pull over. Once she stopped her car at Gupta market, the two men on the scooty fled the scene.
The journalist had already alerted the police, providing her location as she reached the Ashram area. Officers arrived at the scene in Lajpat Nagar, recorded her statement and directed her to the Sunlight Police Station to file a formal First Information Report (FIR).
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that the accused men have been identified. Authorities have formed five special teams from the South East District Police and are conducting raids to apprehend the suspects.
