A Turkish woman was killed and her friend injured after being struck by a speeding black Audi car while crossing Zirakpur’s busy VIP Road late on Monday night.
The victim, identified as Mavluda, died on the spot after the high-impact collision near AmCare Hospital around midnight. Her friend Abhishek, alias Abhi, sustained minor injuries in the incident.
According to police and eyewitness accounts cited by The Tribune, Mavluda and Abhishek were crossing the road outside the hospital after visiting a patient when a black Audi car hit them with such force that the woman was thrown 12 to 14 feet into the air, landing on the opposite side of the carriageway. She succumbed to severe injuries and excessive bleeding at the scene.
Abhishek reportedly told the police that Mavluda, his friend, had accompanied him to the hospital to inquire about the condition of his pregnant wife. As the two stepped onto the main road after the visit, the speeding vehicle rammed into them. The driver allegedly fled the spot immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle.
While passersby alerted the police control room promptly, local residents have reportedly alleged that law enforcement arrived at the location nearly an hour after being informed.
The body was shifted to the mortuary of the Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Hospital. Investigating officer ASI Raj Kumar, as quoted in The Tribune report, said: “The deceased has been identified as a foreign national, Mavluda. Her sister is coming to India from Turkey, and further action, including the postmortem, will be taken after her arrival.”
According to a TOI report, police teams are currently scanning CCTV camera footage from the area to identify the vehicle's registration details and trace the absconding driver. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.
