Snowfall was witnessed on the high peaks of both Garhwal and Kumaon regions, including Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Hemkund, Auli, and Munsyari, the department said.
Light to moderate snowfall began early in the afternoon and continued intermittently through the evening, covering Kedarnath and Badrinath temple premises and nearby peaks under a thick layer of snow. Pilgrims and locals were treated to a picturesque scene as temperatures dipped sharply across the upper reaches of Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts.

According to a report by TOI, officials attributed the fresh activity to an active western disturbance bringing moisture from the Arabian Sea, with similar conditions expected to persist over the next 24 hours.
Yellow alert for Tuesday: Heavy rain, snowfall forecast in parts of Uttarakhand
The Met department has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, predicting heavy rain or snowfall in isolated areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Rudraprayag districts.
Pilgrims and residents in high-altitude regions have been advised to remain cautious due to possible road blockages, landslides, and slippery conditions caused by rain and snow.
Director of the regional meteorological centre, CS Tomar, was quoted by TOI as saying: "Light rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of Uttarakhand between Monday and Saturday, with increased activity likely on Wednesday and Thursday."
