The granddaughter-in-law of Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has alleged mental and physical harassment over dowry demand by her in-laws.
According to a report by News18, Divya Gehlot, wife of Devendra Gehlot, 33, has alleged domestic violence, attempt to murder, and mental harassment in a written complaint submitted to Ratlam Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar in Madhya Pradesh.
Divya alleged that her husband threw her off the roof in a drunk state and her in-laws forbade her from meeting her 4-year-old daughter.
She further alleged that her husband, father-in-law Jitendra Gehlot, 55, a former MLA from Alot, brother-in-law Vishal Gehlot, 25, and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot, 60, have been physically and mentally harassing her. They demand a dowry of Rs 50 lakh.
Reacting to the allegations, former MLA Jitendra Gehlot told NDTV that they “will present all the facts before the media".
Divya married Devendra Gehlot on April 29, 2018, in MP’s Ratlam under the Chief Minister’s Kanyadan Scheme. She alleged that several details like Devendra’s alleged drug addiction, affairs, and others were concealed from her.
In the complaint, she also alleged that her in-laws repeatedly taunt her and demand the promised dowry amount. She is denied food, beaten up, and is subjected to grave mental torture.
Divya shared a horrific incident that took place on January 26. She recounted that her intoxicated husband came to her and pressured her to get money. Then, Devendra pushed her from the roof. Divya sustained serious injuries but was not taken to hospital in the night.
Next morning, she was taken to a private hospital in MP’s Nagda, where doctors declared her critical and referred her to Bombay Hospital in Indore.
Divya further alleged in the complaint that her husband doesn’t let her meet her daughter and says, “Unless you bring money from your parents, you cannot meet your daughter."
