A major terror attempt was foiled in Hyderabad on Sunday after two men were arrested for allegedly planning bomb blasts in the city.
The two suspects, Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), are believed to have links to an ISIS group based in Saudi Arabia, according to a report in NDTV.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by the counter-intelligence teams of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police. Rehman was first caught in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, after a tip-off. The police then arrested Sameer in Hyderabad based on Rehman’s statements.
According to the report, explosive materials such as ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder were found at the suspects’ homes. The two suspects are now in police custody and will soon be presented before a court.
Notably, the arrests of the ISIS-linked suspects come at a time when Hyderabad is hosting the Miss World 2025 contestants. Over 110 participants from around the world are in the city for this event. The grand finale is scheduled to take place on June 1 at the HITEX Exhibition Centre.
