A man allegedly killed his father at Gopanpally village on Tuesday after being scolded for losing Rs 6 lakh in betting and for an extravagant lifestyle, NDTV reported
The accused, identified as Ravinder Nayak, lost his father's money after investing it in online betting games. As per the report, when the 19-year-old was repeatedly questioned by his father, he killed him. The accused was arrested by the Gachibowli police.
Ravinder called his father to a spot under the pretext that his friends would return the money, the report added. However, when the victim arrived on the spot, the accused killed him, attempting to stage it as a suicide.
As per The Hindu, after killing his father, the accused called his uncle, Kethavath Ramesh, claiming that his father, Hanumantu, 37, had allegedly stabbed himself and died. Ramesh, along with family members, rushed to the spot and found Hanumantu with a neck injury. Initially, believing it to be a case of suicide, the family moved the body to their native village in Wanaparthy for the last rites.
However, during the investigation, Ravinder confessed to killing his father, the report added
"In NTR Nagar Gopanapalli, a son killed his father by stabbing him with a knife. Yesterday, the accused called his father to a place, saying that his friends would give him money. When the father arrived, the accused killed him by stabbing him in the neck," a police official was quoted by NDTV as saying.
"The reason behind the murder is that the dead father had borrowed Rs 6 lakhs by mortgaging his land, and his son had invested the money in online betting and lost it. After the father found out, he repeatedly asked his son about the money, which led to a grudge. The accused planned to kill his father, called him to the spot, and murdered him. He then staged the death to look like a suicide and even convinced his mother that it was a suicide. The body was shifted to Kotikuntla Thanda, Ghanpur Mandal. However, the relatives became suspicious, questioned the accused, and he confessed to the crime," the police added.
