Just two days before Raksha Bandhan, a woman from Kusumanchi mandal in Khammam district, Telangana, ended up tying a rakhi to her brother’s body during his funeral, Telangana Today reported.

Pandiri Appi Reddy, 24, an earthmover driver from Kistapuram village, was diagnosed with dengue just days earlier and succumbed to fever on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Khammam.

According to the report, before his condition worsened, Appi Reddy had invited his sister, Sankapalli Jyothi, who lives in Guruvaigudem, to visit him for Rakhi. He had assured her he would recover in time to celebrate the festival together.

During his funeral procession on Thursday, Jyothi tied the rakhi she had brought for him onto his lifeless wrist. His cousins, P. Sowjanya, Krishnaveni, Hemalatha, and Bhavani, also tied rakhis, the report added.
