The Telangana government on Friday tabled a budget of Rs 3.24 lakh crore for 2026-27, an increase of nearly Rs 20,000 crore over the previous year, with its flagship infrastructure projects and fulfilment of election promises at the heart of the spending plan, PTI reported.
Presenting the budget in the state assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka pegged revenue expenditure at Rs 2,34,406 crore and capital expenditure at Rs 47,267 crore. The budget accords prominent priority to the Musi Riverfront beautification project and Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 and 3 expansions, according to the report.
Agriculture received the largest sectoral allocation at Rs 23,179 crore, followed by energy at Rs 21,285 crore. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department was allocated Rs 17,907 crore, while the Medical and Health Department was set aside Rs 13,679 crore, PTI added.
On the economic front, Vikramarka cited encouraging state figures. Telangana's Gross State Domestic Product at current prices stood at Rs 17,82,198 crore for 2025-26, recording a growth rate of 10.7 per cent over the previous year. Per capita income for the same financial year reached Rs 4,18,931 at current prices, with a growth rate of 10.2 per cent, the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Vikramarka struck a combative note while presenting the budget, asserting that it had been drawn up as a charter of resolve to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of Telangana. He said the government had designed it to reflect comprehensive development of the state and that it was governing in adherence to constitutional values and with transparency, adding that the government worked on the foundation of facts and did not lie for applause, PTI reported.
